How to register a child

How to register a child

You can now register a child in the Rejsekort app as a parent or guardian.

Important: You must first be registered in the Rejsekort app yourself and have a payment method linked. You do not need to be an active user of the app, but you must be registered and have a payment method connected before you can help your child get started.

You can find our guide to registering a child here

Go to Guide: How to register a child in the Rejsekort app →

Also remember, if you do not have MitID to confirm that you are over 18 years old, you must verify your age using this application form before you can register your child(ren) in the app.

Go to form →

If you would like help registering your child in the app, you are always welcome to call Rejsekort Customer Centre so we can assist you and your child in getting started.

To register a child, the adult creating the profile must be either the holder of parental custody or the child’s legal guardian.

This is a requirement because only the holder of parental custody or the guardian can enter into agreements on behalf of the child and accept the app’s terms and conditions – including allowing the collection and processing of the child’s personal data, such as location data.

During the registration process, you will be asked to declare that you are the holder of parental custody or the legal guardian of the child.

To register your child in the Rejsekort app without MitID, you must fill out a form to confirm that you are over 18 years old.

You must attach documentation of your age in the form. You can find the link here, where you can also see which types of documentation are accepted:

Go to form (Danish only)

Once your age has been verified, you will receive an email with the result, and you can then proceed to register your child in the Rejsekort app.

Please note that the processing time at Rejsekort Customer Centre is approximately 10 business days.

Also remember that you must register yourself as a user in the app before you can create your child’s profile. You do not need MitID to register as a user in the app with MobilePay as the linked payment method.

No, children aged 15–17 cannot yet add a payment card in the Rejsekort app on their own.

Later they will be able to register a payment card and pay for their own travel without the adult being able to see their travel history.

However, the guardian is still liable for any debt and can access information about the debt if payment is required.

On the day your child turns 16, their profile will automatically change from “Child” to “Youth” in the app.

Please note that this only affects the fare. The app will continue to function with the same features, options, and payment setup as before.

On the day your child turns 18, their profile will automatically transition to an Adult profile in the app.

This also means that your legal responsibility for your child’s travel ends. The payment method you have shared with your child will also automatically be deactivated on the same day.

Therefore, your child must activate their Adult profile before taking their first trip with the Rejsekort app as an 18-year-old.

To travel again using the Rejsekort app, your child must complete three steps in the app:

  1. Accept the terms and conditions for the Rejsekort app
  2. Add and verify their email address
  3. Add their own payment method

We will send information about all of this to both your child and you before your child’s 18th birthday via app notifications and email.

Yes, you can. As a legal guardian or custodian, you can now add a child with the “Disabled” customer type in the Rejsekort app. Here’s a guide on how to do it:

The adult who created the child’s profile must apply on the child’s behalf

  • Apply for the “Disabled” customer type for the child using a form in the Rejsekort app
  • Provide the same personal information about yourself and the child
  • Upload documentation of the child’s identity and disability

  1. Open the Rejsekort Guardian app
  2.  Tap the three horizontal lines in the upper-left corner
  3.  Tap “Settings”
  4. Tap “Change customer type”
  5. Select “Disabled” as the desired customer type
  6. Apply without MitID
  7. Verify your identity by uploading a health card, driver’s license, or passport (guardian’s)
  8. Tap “Next”
  9. Upload a copy (photo) of the Companion Card (child’s)
  10. Give consent to register the “Disabled (Handicap)” customer type
  11. Tap “Next”
  12. Enter first name, last name, phone number, email, and confirm email
  13. Click “Applying on behalf of a child”
  14. Enter the child’s first name
  15. Enter the child’s last name
  16. Enter the child’s phone number
  17. Review the information and verify that it is correct
  18. Click “Next”

A case number will now be generated, and once the Rejsekort Customer Center has processed the request, an email will be sent confirming that the customer type has been changed.

If you have a child who prefers a physical card or doesn’t have a smartphone when traveling by public transportation, there’s a physical alternative: the Basiskort. You can use this card if you are an adult, a child, a young person over 18, a pensioner over or under 67, or have a disability.

Here you can read more about the Basiskort and where to order it.

Use of the Rejsekort-app

With the Rejsekort-app, your child can travel as a “Child” or “Youth.”

When you enter your child’s date of birth during setup in the app, the correct category is selected automatically. So there’s nothing you need to do – but your child must be able to show proof of age during ticket inspection.

To travel as a “Child,” you must be between 0–16 years old.

To travel as “Youth,” you must be between 16–18 years old.

In order for a child to use the Rejsekort app, the child must be registered with their personal information. Therefore, it is not possible to travel anonymously using the Rejsekort app.

For those who prefer a physical card when traveling by public transit, there is a physical alternative: the Basiskort. You can use this card if you are an adult, a child, a young person over 18, a pensioner over or under 67, or have a disability.

It’s also possible to purchase an anonymous Basiskort at kiosks, sales locations, and DSB 7-Eleven stores. The anonymous card is initially set to “Adult” at the time of purchase. You must request a change to “Child” yourself.

Here you can read more about the Basiskort and where to order it.

For a child to use the Rejsekort app, the child must be registered with their personal information. Therefore, it is not possible to travel anonymously with the Rejsekort app.

The child must therefore initially keep their Rejsekort Anonymous.

There will be an extended transition period during which anonymous users can still use the physical Rejsekort. Later, a new solution with physical equipment and cards will be introduced for those who either do not wish to or cannot use the Rejsekort app. We will provide notice well in advance before the change takes effect.

Requirements for telephone

System requirements

iPhone: Your child must have an iPhone with iOS 15 (or newer).

Android: Your child must have a smartphone with Android 8.0 (or newer).

SIM card: Your child must have a working SIM card that allows mobile data (the Rejsekort-app uses approx. 1 MB per hour).

Battery: Your child's phone must have enough battery for the entire journey. The app does not use more power than other apps, but there must be enough battery for the child to reach their destination and show their ticket if there’s a ticket inspection.

Payment: Your child’s app must be linked to a valid payment method through your app. You can currently use MobilePay and a selection of payment cards.

Permissions: You must grant the app the necessary permissions, including location sharing. This is required so we can calculate your child’s travel fare as accurately as possible.
You can read more about our terms and conditions for the Rejsekort-app.

Go to Terms for the Rejsekort-app →

Location:
The Rejsekort-app must have access to your child’s location data to accurately register the journey.

We track your child’s location like this: When the child opens the Rejsekort app, during the journey, and until shortly after checking out. This ensures that we calculate the correct fare and confirm that the child has checked out at the end of the trip.
You can read more about location data sharing under the question "Why do I need to share my location?" at My account and data.

When setting up the child’s profile in the Rejsekort app, go to Location and select 'Allow while using the app' or 'While in use'.

Important: If your child turns off location services during the trip, the ticket is no longer valid, and this may result in a fine during ticket inspection.

Motion:
With motion data enabled, the app can detect if the child is moving, walking, moving away from a vehicle, and distinguish between types of transport. This helps the app calculate the correct journey and price more accurately.

Motion data is also required for using the ‘Smart check-out’ feature, which helps if your child occasionally forgets to swipe to check out.

If your child has an iPhone, allow access to Motion & Fitness Activity.

If your child has an Android phone, allow Physical activity.

Notifications:
Choose “Enabled” to take advantage of all app features. With notifications, the app can remind your child to check out and provide a fare summary after the trip.

Background App Refresh:
Set to “Enabled” so the Rejsekort app can continue tracking the location if the phone restarts.

Mobile Data:
Set to “Enabled” so your child’s phone can communicate with the Rejsekort app during the journey to ensure a valid ticket.

Wi-Fi and Bluetooth:
We recommend enabling these to improve the accuracy of your child’s location data.

Battery usage:

Battery consumption for the Rejsekort app has been tested on various phone models and operating systems. On average, the Rejsekort app uses about 5% battery per hour. Battery drains faster if other apps or functions are running at the same time.

Please remember that your child is responsible for having a working phone with enough battery for the entire journey.
If your child’s phone runs out of battery, the ticket is no longer valid.

Mobile data usage:

To calculate the correct fare for your child’s journey, the Rejsekort app requires access to your child’s location data.

During a trip, the Rejsekort app sends and receives approximately 1 MB of data per hour.
